This is the year of doing. No more planning. I’m going to go out and do the things I want to do… finally.

I’m a big fan of Vimeo.

If you don’t know about it, its where all the cool kids go to post videos online. Maybe not the cool kids, but the ones that can make good videos. I like Vimeo so much, I make it a habit to watch at least one Vimeo staff pick every single day. And it’s not because I’m looking to become the next Steven Spielberg it’s because I’m looking for good content for inspiration. I want to make content I like and Im proud of. I think its really important to surround yourself with content that inspires you. THere’s another post about keeping creatively juiced here.

I’m going to spend all the time I can making the kind of work I aspire to. I’m putting it on black and letting it ride. Doubling down. Shooting for the sky. This probably doesn’t belong in a block quote but who cares.

However I have come to realize that the work that I aspire to get paid for if I go make that work on my own. Think about your resume’, what is it? A list of things you’ve done and what better to get a job than a strong (and accurate) resume’? Its the same with video work, or anything for that matter. So if you want to be a commercial director, make a commercial, a really good one without the company’s permission and send it to them. Who knows, maybe they buy it or maybe someone else sees it and likes you work. Bang-a-rang.

Some jobs are paycheck jobs and other jobs are passion jobs. We would all love to be able to find that situation where passion in the paycheck meet up; but until then, it may just be a really good idea to spend some time making the content that you want to make a career out of and then maybe somebody with money will find you because your desires and their need for content will line up. Run on sentence. You want to take a ride with me and see where it goes. I’m going for it.
