Get to know yourself

If you are a jack of all trades but master of none, that’s not a good thing. In fact, it won’t provide you with food for very long. As a business leader, you know what you are good at. Be good at that thing. Become an expert. Learn more, be more, and do everything you can to be the best you are at that thing you are already good at.

Most of all, when it comes to running a business, whether you are working on a video production, a new marketing method, or anything else, remember that you cannot do everything all the time. You cannot do all things or be all people. If you refuse to admit your weaknesses, then you are essentially shooting yourself in the foot by letting your pride get in the way, and you will never fully accomplish whatever you set out to do. The trick is figuring out what you can be “wrold-class” at and working to being better. Work in your talent – hire your weakness. Here is another article about working in your talent.

Once you pinpoint what you aren’t so good at, dealing with this is easy. You hire people who can fill in your weakness gaps. Making a good team will be essential to you accomplishing your goals. Plus, if you are all in it together, you will probably enjoy life a bit more. Work is pretty awesome when you like the people you work with.

Remember just because you hate one thing doesn’t mean everyone does. Someone out there will love that thing and then you can hire them. This is absolutely the smartest way to run a business.

Think about this. Perhaps you want to put together a video production. You have an idea what you want it to be. You even came up with the storytelling element. However, you don’t know anything about cameras or technology. You don’t know how to be a director or cinematographer. If you try to handle all of this, you will likely end up with a video shot on your iPhone and it won’t look as professional as you envisioned. The easier solution is to hire someone who loves video productions and will turn your dream into a creative and beautiful film.
